Kafr El Sheikh Waste Recycling Plant
Installation work is progressing at the Kafr El Sheikh Municipal Solid Waste Recycling Plant, one of the waste management projects involving Innovativa Smart Solutions in Egypt.
The plant forms part of the Kitchener Drain Water Quality Improvement Project, linked to initiatives supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EBRD, under the supervision of Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development and Environment.

The project brings modern municipal solid waste treatment infrastructure to Kafr El Sheikh, with a focus on sorting, treatment, material recovery, and reducing the amount of waste sent for final disposal.
600 Tons of Municipal Solid Waste Per Day
The Kafr El Sheikh plant covers approximately 30,000 square meters and has a design capacity of up to 600 tons of municipal solid waste per day.
This scale requires an integrated processing system capable of handling large waste volumes while maintaining consistent sorting and treatment performance.
The plant combines mechanical processing, biological treatment, material recovery, and digital operating systems within one facility.

Mechanical Biological Treatment, MBT
The plant uses Mechanical Biological Treatment, MBT, to separate and process different fractions of municipal solid waste.
Mechanical sorting equipment separates recoverable materials and prepares different waste fractions for further treatment. Biological treatment handles the organic fraction through processes designed to produce useful outputs.
The treatment process supports the production and recovery of:
Organic compost
Refuse-Derived Fuel, RDF
Recoverable recyclable materials
These outputs help reduce dependence on final disposal while returning materials and resources to productive use.
From Municipal Waste to Recoverable Resources
A modern waste recycling plant does more than separate mixed waste.
The processing line identifies materials with further economic or industrial value and directs each fraction toward the appropriate treatment route.
Recyclable materials return to recycling streams. Suitable combustible fractions contribute to RDF production. Organic fractions move through biological treatment to produce compost.
This approach reflects the practical principles of the circular economy by keeping resources in use for longer and reducing material losses across the waste management chain.

Mechanical Sorting and Digital Control
The Kafr El Sheikh facility includes advanced mechanical sorting lines supported by digital operation and control systems.
These systems support plant operators in monitoring process conditions, coordinating equipment, and following operational performance across different stages of the treatment line.
Combining mechanical equipment with digital control also provides greater visibility over daily operations and supports stable processing performance across high waste volumes.
